What You Need to Know About DPF
As part of the environmental responsibility of the Ardent service we offer the extra of a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) with those vehicles and machinery that have the legal requirement. It is designed to remove the soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine, helping to limit the impact of your project on the local (and wider) environment.
A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a device that is used to reduce the emissions coming from a diesel engine. How it works is that the DPF acts as a trap for soot. So soot particulates that are produced by the exhaust gasses are caught prior to leaving the vehicle and entering the atmosphere. The gasses flow directly from the exhaust into the diesel particulate filter (DPF), with the soot particles filtered out and trapped within the DPF. During the later regeneration process the soot is then burned away.
DPFs are a legal requirement within the EU, with the problems soot can cause in terms of breathing problems, particularly in busy city environments where there is plenty of consistent traffic. Regeneration is when the DPF becomes full of soot and needs to rid itself of the particles. Once it has reached a certain temperature it is converted into a compact volume of ash and prepares for re-use.
At Ardent we are all about offering those extras that provide a real benefit to your plant hire experience. If you’d like to find out more about our policy on Diesel Particulate Filter’s (DPF) please feel free to contact our customer service team on 03333 202 555 and we’ll be happy to assist.
